Meet, Emmylou; named after country great Emmylou Harris :
She's 3-years-old and has been rescued from a breeder and a life as a breeder dog, having countless litters and living outdoors. She's sweet and gentle and for a dog who probably didn't get much of it, loves to be cuddled.
After Gordon told me about the conditions in which she was living, I'm thrilled that he chose to bring her home. By bringing her home we have certainly bestowed upon her a much more comfortable and spoiled life. Had I gone with him and seen the way the breeder had the dogs living, I may have wanted to bring home more than just one.
Our other four-legged children seem to have accepted her. There wasn't so much as a bark or a nip to establish dominance or territory.
So now we are seven: Me, Gordon and our five four legged kids: Sassy (our only feline), Mikey, Hank, Finnegan and now, Emmylou.
Is it a lot? In terms of leg count . . .well, yeah. But in terms of animals? Not really. An extra 8 pounds of animal really doesn't amount to very much.
But even if it was too much it's too late, we love her already.
