Coming to America

I am now, officially, a permanent resident of the United States of America.
After 4 years of having to go through the system and playing a very long waiting game, the end is now in sight.

I got my green card in the mail yesterday which enables me to apply for a Social Security Card, a driver's license and to finally find employment.
It's a huge relief and a very happy ending to long process.

Now this, of course, also can mean that my permanency here in Nashville is fairly cemented. Sad news to friends and family back home, I'm sure but to them I can only offer this: Don't be sad, don't see this as merely the fact of she'll-never-be-moving-back; because this newest development can only add to the happiness that I've found here.

But I would now like to use this little bit of space to thank my husband, Gordon.

You have logged countless hours on the phone and online to make sure that we did this right. We have amassed a lengthy trail of paperwork that is so thorough that it can only stand as an example of your determination to leave no i undotted and no t uncrossed. I thank you for your patience (even though it was often tested) in dealing with all the limitations that were placed before us. I thank you for your knowledge of the system and all the hours you logged researching and reading; had it been left solely up to me I would not have known where to begin. Thank you for never, not once, making me feel less significant, less contribuitive or less important because of all of the things that could not do.

And most of all, I thank you for feeling that this has all been worth it. Not every man would have gone through what you have gone through to bring me down here so we can share a life together. And if that isn't a sign of love, then I don't know what is.
