I'm sure that the conservative right have been waiting for this moment to harshly criticize Obama over what he has failed to accomplish, promises he has supposedly broken and the countless ways he is likely to send this country into an abysmal socialist black hole.
True, the economy sucks. There are no jobs, no security and there is no end in sight. But these past 100 days with President Obama at the helm have made me feel much more hopeful over living here, than the 2,920 days that George W. Bush was in office. I would rather be in a country with a sinking economy, with a democratic at the wheel, than in one with a president that (as Seth Meyers has said) "broke the world."
So here's to the 1,360 more days that are left in Obama's first term, and an unabashed hopefulness over the 1,460 days that will be his second term.
For some fantastic photos from the White House click on the link below to be sent to Flickr, and to a Photostream that has me absolutely jealous for the job of White House photographer: http://www.flickr.com/photos/whitehouse/
They show a man, and a family, that has not only brought a breath of fresh air to American politics; but who constantly shows a wonderfully warm sense of humanity, humility, realness and goodnaturedness. And in such uncertain times that's the best sort of person to be at the reins.
Some of my faves. All photos by Pete Souza
