Happy Earth Day everybody!
While all things "green" seems very hip and very trendy, there is no denying the need to keep things out of our landfills, water and air. There is no denying the need for renewable resources and to take care of what Earth we have left.
I started Earth Week by being more aware of what our city recycles in order to fully take advantage of Nashville's curb-side recycling program. Cans, cardboard and paper were a given, but I knew that we could fill our recycling bin even further. So now we have a list on our kitchen recycling bin what can be recycled, in order to ensure that nothing ends up in the trash, if it doesn't need to be there.
Reducing the amount of garbage that we produce in the first place will obviously keep things out of our landfills. So, when possible, at the store I buy things that have at little packaging possible or recyclable packaging.
But what I'm really excited about this Earth Week is the garden that Gordon and I are getting ready to plant. This year we're attempting to organically grow several of our own vegetables in addition to the flowers and plants we attempt to grow every year. I'm hoping that, eventually, we'll be able to grow enough for our own use to cut down on our need to buy everything through conventional means; which will, in turn, reduce a tiny bit of our carbon footprint.
